Template:Latvia MADONA TOWN
Region : Vidzeme
Municipality : Madona
Official blazon
Sarkanā laukā zelta gaiļa galva.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1938.
Madona is the original name of the settlement (the German form became Modohn). Later it was known as Birzu muiza (Birzi manor).
In 1903 the railway was built, and the village developed rapidly into a town. In 1926 the city rights were granted and the name was changed to Madona again.
The meaning of the rooster head I do not know.
