Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on January 22, 1979.
If this text appears, it means that background information is available, but that I have not yet had the time to add the information on these arms. Just [|mail me with the name of the town in the subject !] and I will add all information that I have !
The previous arms were granted in 1968.
The arms are a combination of the arms of the Cistercian Order, a sword and the symbol of the patron saint.
Mähring was founded and owned by the Cistercian monastery in Waldsassen. In Mähring there was a small local court, and the sword was added to symbolise this court. The spiked-wheel is the symbol of St. Catherine, the patron saint of the village church, which also belonged to the monastery in Waldsassen until 1803.
