LOZNICA (Лозница)

District : Mačva

Coat of arms (crest) of Loznica
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms show in the upper part the name of the town in Cyrillic. The sheet of paper, feather and the first 7 letters of the Serbian alphabet indicate that Vuk Karadžić, the major reformer of the Serbian language and alphabet, was born near Loznica. The base shows a gusle, a local instrument, and also refers to Vuk Karadžić, as he wrote a large number of songs and poems dealing with Serbian history. Traditionally tales were being told with help of the gusle.
