Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of the town dates from the 17^th century and already shows the hops flower. The cultivation of hops was the main activity in the area at the time. In the early 19^th century the arms wrongly showed a bunch of golden grapes in a blue field. In the late 19^th century the arms were completely forgotten, but were restored in original colours in 1954.
