German In Silber auf dreiteiligem grünen Felsen eine grüne Linde, deren Stamm mit einem schwarzen Schild überdeckt ist, darin ein rot gekrönter, rot bewehrter goldener Löwe.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1925 and are based on the oldest known seals. Lindenfels received city rights in 1336, but the oldest known seal dates from the 16th century. It shows a canting linden tree on a mountain (Fels=rock) and a small shield with the arms of the Palatinate (Pfalz), quartered with the lion of the Pfalz and the diamonds of Bayern. The city belonged to the Pfalz since 1277.

Two other seals are known, one with a similar composition, and one with only a linden tree.

When the new arms were devised the small shield was simplified and shows only the lion of the Pfalz.Hupp, however, showed tha lion of Hessen instead (see below).
