Official blason:
Von Silber und Grün geteilt, oben eine linksgewendete grüne Erdölpumpe, unten ein linksgewendeter silberner Pflug.

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on March 22, 2002.

The municipality is situated on the border of the sandy Geest and marshland, which is symbolised by the division line. The two main activities in the municipality are agriculture and oil refining in the local refinery. This is symbolised by the ancient plough as well as the pumpjack. The colours also symbolise the clean air and sky (silver) as well as agriculture (green).
