Wappen von Lichtenau (Mittelfranken)

Official blazon

Über von Rot, Silber und Blau geteiltem Schildfuß gespalten; vorne in Gold ein halber, rot bewehrter schwarzer Adler am Spalt, hinten fünfmal schräg geteilt von Rot und Silber.

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1937 and officially granted on April 1, 1964.

The arms are based on a 17th century seal of the Lichtenau district, part of the state of Nürnberg. In the late 19th century these arms were considered the arms of the town, and used as such since. The colours, however, were changed in 1937, to distinguish the arms. The colours in the base of the shield originally were blue, silver and red.

The upper part of the arms is the arms of the city of Nürnberg, the lower part the arms of the Lords of Heideck. The town belonged from 1288 to the early 15th century to the latter, and was acquired by Nürnberg afterwards.

Hupp showed in the 1920s the same arms, but with the eagle totally black.
