Arms of Lemvig

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially registered in 1938.

The arms are based on a seal of the city, which is known from 1608. The only known older seal of the city shows a point with wavy lines, see image below. The arms show the local church tower and two small hills covered with grass. The hills and the wavy base symbolise the position on the Limfjord and the sandy dunes around it. The maening of the two stars is not known.
