Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 18, 1987.

The arms show three birch leaves for the leaf forests in the municipality, which includes many birches. The leaf is also acanting element. The three leaves also symbolise the three population groups, Norwegians, Lapps (Sami) and Kvens.
