LAER

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Steinfurt
Additions : 1969 Holthausen

Laer.jpg

Official blazon

In Gold ein auffliegender schwarzer, silber bewehrter Falke.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1970, but have been used for a long time before. In 1939 the municipality applied for the arms, which were not granted, as arms derived from personal arms were not considered appropriate at the time. The arms were, however, used by the municipality.

The arms are derived from the Lords von Valcke, a family that lived for many centuries in Laer and became extinct in the 18th century. The falcon (Falke) is canting for the family.
