Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted on December 17, 1960.

The arms combine the arms of the Lordship of Neuchâtel and the arms of the Châteauvillain-Commercy family, as the town historically belonged to these. The inescutcheon shows the historical arms of the town.

The two supporters ar ethe lions of the Franche-Comté, the region in which the town is situated.
