KORTESSEM

Province : Limburg
Additions: 1977 Guigovem, Vliermaal, Vliermaalroot, Wintershoven

Wapen van Kortessem/Coat of arms (crest) of Kortessem

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 17, 1987.

The arms were newly designed, as of the five former municipality only Vliermaal used arms. The right half shows the arms of Vliermaal and also represents Vliermaalroot, which was part of Vliermaal until 1865. The hammer in the upper left quarter is taken from the arms of the Blanckaert family, last Lords of Guigovem. The lower left quarter shows the arms of the family d'Isendoorn a Blois, last Lords of both Kortessem and Wintershoven.
