KNJAŽEVAC (Књажевац)

District : Zaječar

Arms of Knjaževac

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

I have no information on the meaning or origin of these arms. Any information is welcome !

Prior to 2002 the town used the arms below:

Knjazeva.jpg

In 1833 Knjazevac was liberated from the Turks, then still called Gurgusovac. In 1859 the name was changed from Gurgusovac into the today's Knjazevac. Knjazevac is situated between three mountains, which is shown in the arms. The building symbolises the train tunnel through the mountains, built in 1944. The white bridge is the bridge over the Beli Timok river. The point indicates that the lowest part of the region is in the Knajzevac valley.

The base shows the name.
