Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen)
The arms were officially granted on July 20, 1964.
The red lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of the Rhein, who ruled the area in medieval times. The oak leaf refers to the ancient Kreuz- or Elendseiche oak tree in the village.
