Arms of Kerteminde

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 11, 2006.

The arms were newly devised for the merger in 2007 and show the front of a viking longboat. A large longboat has been found on in the municipality. The boat thus also shows the long inhabitation of the area.

The city used the arms below until 2007, granted in 1985 :

Arms of Kerteminde

These arms are based on the oldest known seal, dating from 1535. An older seal is known (from 1411), but it is not clear what it showed. The city is an important harbour, which explains the ship.
