(de) In Silber eine gezinnte rote Stadtmauer, schwarz gefugt, mit geöffnetem roten Tor, hochgezogenem blauen Fallgatter und drei aufgesetzten gezinnten roten, schwarz gefugten Türmen mit je einem Fenster, der größere und stärkere mittlere Turm mit blauem Kegeldach und goldenem Knauf.

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1325. As many other seals of that time, it showed a castle to indicate the fact that Köthen was a city. Köthen probably was a walled city already in the early 12th century. The colours have been used since the 19th century.
