Kösching has used seals since the 14th century and until the 19th century and all showed a group of trees (10, later 7), with in front of the trees a small shield with the arms of the Wittelsbach family and Bayern. In 1565 the colours were mentioned as red with green trees. The combination of a divided shield with the diamonds of Bayern and the tree appears as arms as early as 1562. Since 1640 the arms appear on the seals of the city, and the arms thus have not changed since.

Origin/meaning

Kösching has used seals since the 14th century and until the 19th century and all showed a group of trees (10, later 7), with in front of the trees a small shield with the arms of the Wittelsbach family and Bayern. In 1565 the colours were mentioned as red with green trees. The combination of a divided shield with the diamonds of Bayern and the tree appears as arms as early as 1562. Since 1640 the arms appear on the seals of the city, and the arms thus have not changed since.

The meaning of the trees is not clear, most likely a symbol for the area as the town was situated amidst large forests.
