Arms of Joseph Gabriel Pinten

Bishop of Grand Rapids

Official blazon

  • (personal arms) Azure, sown with silver lilies, on a fess gules a silver dove.

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The honours St. Joseph and St. Gabriel, his name Patrons, Our Lady, and the Holy Spirit. The lily is an attribute common to all three Saints, the blue field being also common to the arms of Our Lady and of St. Joseph. The red of St. Gabriel's arms appears here as a background for the dove ofthe Holy Spirit.
