Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a blue rectangular shaped embroidered device, a rocket ascending emitting a flame and a generatrix throughout the base all white, surmounting a sun in splendor red, and between a star in top left and a crescent moon in top right both white. Attached above, a white scroll inscribed “JOHN GLENN” in blue letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height. Attached below, a white scroll inscribed “HIGH SCHOOL” in blue 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height letters, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border. The overall dimension is 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height overall.
Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: On a Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure a globe Celeste land masses Vert within an orbiting rocket in chief point to sinister chief Gules. Attached below the shield, a Blue scroll inscribed “JOHN GLENN HIGH SCHOOL” in base metal letters.
Origin/meaning
Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Red, white and blue are the school’s colors. The Rocket is the school symbol.
Shoulder Loop Insignia: Red, white and blue are the school’s colors. The rocket contrailing the earth is the school symbol, and a tribute to Astronaut John Glenn, first man to orbit the earth in Friendship Seven.
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Shoulder Loop Insignia was approved on 23 December 2005.
