JELS

Region : Midtjylland
Amt (until 2007) : Sønderjylland
Incorporated into : 1970 Rødding (2007 Vejen)

Arms of Jels

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1948.

The arms show a castle as a canting symbol for the oldest name of the town : Jarlesæde, or Earl's seat. The trees symbolise the large Farris forest in the municipality. The black stork is a very rare bird in Denmark, but it breeds around some of the lakes in the municipality.
