IVANO-FRANKIVSK (Івано-Франківськ)

Region (Oblast) : Ivano-Frankivsk

Arms (crest) of Ivano-Frankivsk
Official blazon
Ukrainian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 17, 1995.

The arms of the city have always been a gate as a symbol of the fortifications. During the years the colours and the small emblem in the gate have changed, see images below.

The previous arms were granted in 1938 (when the city was still Polish), and showed the gate with the arms of the Potocki family. These arms have been used since the 19th century. Currently the arms show St. Michael, the patron saint of Ukraine.
