IGUALADA
Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona
Official blazon
Escut de Barcelona amb el distintiu d'aigües a la punta de l'escut.
Origin/meaning
The arms of Igualada contain the arms of Barcelona (quarterly with the cross of St. George at 1st and 4th quarters, and the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon in 2nd and 3rd quarters), because in 1381 the city received the privilege of being a "street of Barcelona" (see l'Ametlla del Vallès), and they are singularised by a wavy base, Argent and Azure, which is the representation of the Anoia, the river that flows along the city.
These arms are traditional (they were used already in 1441), but haven't been granted officially yet.
