Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 23, 1938 and again on October 7, 1971.
The tree in the upper part is a canting element (Holz=wood) and was also used in the seal of the town prior to 1938. The tree was the Hilgenbaum oak, in the center of the village. In 1938 the oak was placed on a chequered base, derived from the arms of the Counts of the Mark, who ruled the area in medieval times.
