HERTSBERGE
Province : West-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1977 Oostkamp
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The municipality Hertsberge was created in 1919 from parts of the surrounding municipalities. In 1977 these municipalities were again joined in the new municipality of Oostkamp.
The arms of Hertsberge were never officially granted. The arms show two deer (Herten in Dutch), making it canting arms. The arms may be based on the oldest known Lords of Hertsberge, dating from the 14th century. The seal of Johan van Hertsberghe showed a deer with a cross between the antlers. Similarly, the seal of Bertelmus van Hertsberghe dating from 1318 also showed a deer.
