Arms of Helsingør

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms show a ship, as the city has been an important harbour for many centuries.

The oldest known seal, known since the 14th century, already shows a ship. The present arms show the type of ship as seen on the seals from the 16th century. A ship is also the symbol of St. Olaf, the patron saint of the city.
