Wappen von Helmarshausen

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Helmarshausen was first mentioned as a city in 1220 and the oldest seal is known since 1294. The arms are derived from this seal. The arms show a walled city with in the gate the image of St. Paul, patron saint of the city and of the Benedictine Abbey of Helmarshausen, who ruled the city until l220. The original seal showed some guards on the towers, but these have been removed. The colours are known since 1605.
