HADDINGTON (Burgh)

Incorporated into : 1975 East Lothian (District Council)

Arms (crest) of Haddington

Official blazon

Azure, on a mount in base Proper, a goat rampant contournée Argent, attired and unguled Or, browsing upon a vine also Proper. Above the Shield is placed a Burghal coronet.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 8, 1927.

The arms are based on the device on the oldest known Burgh seals of which impressions dated l296 and 1357 are known. The significance of the goat browsing on the tree is not clear.

Arms (crest) of Haddington

The arms as used on a JaJa postcard +/- 1905

A variation of the arms is now used by the Haddington and District Community Council
