Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 25, 1962.

The chief shows the cross of the State and Bishops of Paderborn. The area belonged for many centuries to the State of Paderborn. The wavy bar and the green field in the lower part indicate the many streams and rivers as well as the meadows and forests in the municipality. The main river in the area is the Ems.

The horn in the lower part indicates the former hunting castle of the Bishops in the municipality, built in 1661.
