Administrative division

Greenland is a self-governing part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is divided in 4 municipalities, as well as a large National Park, which is not inhabited and thus forms no part of any municipality. In addition to this there are some villages that are outside the municipal system. These include weather stations and the airports in Thule (US base) and Kangerlussuak (Søndre Strømfjord).

Greenland is a huge country with very few inhabitants. This results in very large municipalities with very few inhabitants. On January 2009, the municipalities in Greenland were reduced from 18 to only 4.
