State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Waldshut
Additions : 1934 Geroldshofstetten, Rippoldsried, Rötenberg; 1972 Mettenberg, 1974 Staufen

Wappen von Grafenhausen (Waldshut)

Official blazon

(de) In Blau die silbern gekleidete Justitia mit silberner Augenbinde, in der Rechten ein gestürztes Schwert, in der Linken eine goldene Waage haltend.

Origin/meaning

Grafenhausen is named after the Counts (Grafen) of Nellenburg. Later the area was a possession of the St. Blasien Abbey. The town was the seat of a local court and hence the symbol of justice, Lady Justice with sword and scales, appeared on the 19th century seal of the town. In 1903 the arms were officially granted, with the colours of St. Blasien.
