Arms (crest) of Gniew

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are canting for the German name (Mewe, from Möwe=gull). The gull already appears on the oldest seal, dating from the 14th century. The present composition with the wings upward appear first in the 17th century. Before that there have been several compositions, but all with gull and fish.
