Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 1, 1996.

The arms show in the chief two goosefeather-pens. These refer to the author Johannes Gillhoff, who was born in the village. The red castle refers to the castle of the knight Hermann Ribe, which was destroyed in 1298, The green oak leaves refer to the forests in the municipality.
