Origin/meaning

The tree is the most important tree in Biskaia (Basque Country) as historically the General Assembly gathered under the tree in the town.

The General Assembly ("Juntas Generales" or "Batzak Nagusiak Bizkaia") was held in a Roman style building until 1876 and again since 1979. This is the building behind the tree in the arms.
