Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 28, 1986.
The eagle is the symbol of St. John Evangelist, the local patron saint. The golden bend in blue is taken from the historical Uttenheim samt Gericht Estate. These arms are shown on a sign in the Brixen castle.
The previous arms were granted on April 19, 1956.
The arms show a castle as a symbol for two historical castles. Above Gais stands the Kehlburg castle, built around 1007 and a little west of the village the castle Neuhaus, built in the 13th century. The bishops of Brixen owned both castles.
