Origin/meaning

The arms were granted March 27, 1837 by King Ludwig I.

The arms are based on the battle in the town in 1462. The city of Augsburg ruled the town, which was attacked by Duke Ludwig of Niederbayern-Landshut. The local tower (according to legend built by the Romans) was defended by only eight warriors, which is symbolised by the eight swords.

Hupp showed the same composition, but with only seven swords with golden handles:

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925
