Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 25, 1997.

The fortress in the arms is a canting element, Forte meaning fortress. Historically there were 5 small fortresses in the area to protect the city of Lisbon.

Above the fortress is shown an olive branch, as there are many olive trees grown in the area.

The river in the base is the Tejo river.
