The arms represent a fountain called Fontaine des Quatre-Tias (Fountain of four pipes), which can still be seen in the city center of Fontenay-le-Comte. The city started to develop around a water source and a fountain, typical from the Renaissance style, was erected at the water source location in 1542. | |||

Origin/meaning
The arms originally date from 1699 and are re-designed in 1927.
The arms represent a fountain called Fontaine des Quatre-Tias (Fountain of four pipes), which can still be seen in the city center of Fontenay-le-Comte. The city started to develop around a water source and a fountain, typical from the Renaissance style, was erected at the water source location in 1542.
