Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on November 27, 2008.

The lion in the upper part refers to the former County of Meissen, and the lion of Meissen was also part of the arms of some of the older districts. The miner's tools refer to the mining in the region. The green hill refers to the mountains and the forests in the district.
