Gespalten von Rot und Silber; vorne über einem silbernen Schrägwellenbalken ein sechsspeichiges silbernes Rad; hinten ein grüner Elsenbaum auf grünem Boden.

Origin/meaning

The arms were devised and granted on December 20, 1954.

The right part shows the wheel of the [{State of Mainz]], as the town belonged to Mainz until 1803. The small wavy bend below the wheel is the Elsava stream, from which the name of the town is derived in the 17^th century. The left part of the arms is canting, an aspen (Else) on a field (Feld).
