In spring an autumn the sun shines through the hole directly into the village of Elm. The arms were officially adopted on February 20, 1940.
The arms show a chamois on mountains. The 5 mountains with the blue hole, symbolise the Elmer Berge and the Martinsloch. This is a hole in the mountains above Elm at around 2600 m.
