Administrative division

El Salvador is divided into 14 departments (departamentos), which in turn are subdivided into 262 municipalities (municipios).

Heraldry

Only very few departements and municipalities use truly heraldic coats of arms. Most use some kind of emblem or logo (often incorrectly referred to as coats of arms). In several cases these emblems have been added to this site.
