Escut caironat: d'or, un pi arrencat de sinople; el cap quarterat: al primer, de gules, un castell d'or tancat d'atzur; al segon, d'argent, un lleó de porpra; al tercer, d'or, quart pals de gules, una cadena d'or passada en creu, en sautor i en orla carregada en abisme d'un caboixó de sinople; gaiat curvilini a la punta i abaixat d'argent, una magrana tijada i fullada de sinople i oberta de gules; sobre el tot un escussó ovalat d'atzur amb tres flors de lis d'or i la bordura de gules. Per timbre, una corona mural de vila.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 26th November 1999.

These arms are canting: they show a "pi" (Catalan for "pine tree"). The chief show the Spanish arms (formed by the arms of Castile, Leon, Aragon, Navarre, Granada and, in the middle, the fleurs-de-lis of the Bourbons), that appear in the arms of the town by a privilege granted by the Spanish king Charles III, which named El Pinell de Brai "villa fidelissima" (very reliable town), in gratitude for its loyalty to Philip V in the Succession War.
