Wappen von Egloffstein

Official blazon

In Schwarz ein silberner, rotbezungter Bärenkopf.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 17, 1956.

The arms are derived from the arms of the Lords (later Counts) of Egloffstein. The arms of the family show a black bear's head on a silver field. The Lords of Egloffstein are known since 1190 and ruled the town for many centuries, first as independent counts, from 1509 as vassals of the Bishops of Bamberg.

In 1956 the present arms were granted. The town did not use arms before.
