Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 26, 1849.

The arms are derived from the common seal of Doel and Kieldrecht from the 16^th century. The ship probably shows the importance of shipping on the Schelde river, and/or the many inundations caused by the river. The small shields with the fleur-de-lis are of unknown origin. The letter D is the town's initial. See also the arms of Kieldrecht.
