In azuur een kruis van zilver, in het eerste kwartier vergezeld van een lelie van goud. Het schild gedekt met een gouden,met edelstenen bezette mijter,waarvan ter weerszijden van het schild twee gouden, van keel gevoerde linten met gouden franje afhangen, de uiteinden beladen met een breedarmig kruisje van keel; achter het schild, schuingekruist, een gouden kromstaf, de krul naar buiten gericht, en een gouden, met edelstenen bezet kruis met lelievormige uiteinden.

Het wapen met een zilveren kruis op een blauw veld is geïntroduceerd in 1853 door bisschop Paredis. Het wapen is sindsdien wel gebruikt, maar nooit officieel verleend. De oorsprong van het wapen is niet duidelijk, er is gesteld dat het op een oud kapittelwapen teruggaat, maar dat is niet bewezen.
Oudere wapens van het bisdom zijn niet bekend; de bisschoppen gebruikten hun persoonlijke zegels en/of wapens.

Het oorspronkelijke wapen kon niet worden verleend, vanwege de grote overeenkomsten met de wapens van de gemeenten Zwolle en Warmond. Als onderscheid werd een lelie toegevoegd, afkomstig uit het wapen van de stad Roermond.

The silver cross on a blue field was introduced as the coat of arms of the diocese in 1853. The arms have been used since, but were never officially granted. Older arms of the diocese are not known, the bishops sealed with their personal coat of arms.
The origin of the cross is not clear, it is supposedly based on the arms of the old cathedral chapter, but this has not been established.

To distinguish the arms from the arms of the city of Zwolle and town of Warmond a fleur-de-lys was added, taken from the arms of the city of Roermond.
