DIOCESE OF MATLOSANE (formerly Diocese of Klerksdorp)

Country : South Africa
Denomination : Anglican

Arms (crest) of Diocese of Matlosane

Official blazon

Vert, a chevron rompu Or and in base an Agnus Dei proper.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 26, 1990.

The diocese was created in 2002 as a division of the Diocese of Johannesburg.

The chevron rompu is reminiscent of the cross-section of a church with a high nave and side aisles, while the Paschal Lamb or Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) in the base of the shield is symbolic of Christ.

The chevron can also be seen as alluding to the many faults in the strata of the Witwatersrand gold reef which extends well into the diocese.

The colour green symbolises growth and renewal.
