Origin/meaning

The arms are the arms of the oldest Lords of Daun, dating from the 13^th century. Daun grew around the castle of the Lords of Daun and became a city in 1340. In 1354 the family became extinct and the Bishops of Trier came into possession of Daun. Consequently the seals from the 16^th century and later show the cross of Trier. The present arms, which were granted this century go back to the old arms.
