Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 1, 1927.

The arms show a castle as a symbol for the city. The thornbush in the gate is a canting symbol. The name Dassow is derived from the local Slavic word darč, meaning thornbursh. A local legend states that a thornbusch growing in the gate of the city prevented enemies to invade and conquer the city.
