DANNENFELS

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Donnersbergkreis
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Kirchheimbolanden

Wappen von Dannenfels/Arms (crest) of Dannenfels
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1925 and are a combination of the lion of Nassau and a canting symbol (Tanne=pine tree). Dannenfels got city rights in 1331 from the counts of Oppenheim. In 1393 the city was inherited by the Nassau-Weilheim branch of the Nassau family.

The oldest known seal, dating from the late 17th century shows only the lion of Nassau. The tree was added in 1925.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
