CHAVAGNES-EN-PAILLERS

Département : Vendée

Blason de Chavagnes-en-Paillers/Arms (crest) of Chavagnes-en-Paillers
Official blazon
French Parti: au 1er mi-parti gironné de vair et de gueules de dix pièces, au 2e d'azur aux deux crosses adossées d'argent, celle de dextre, épiscopale, posée en bande et celle de senestre, abbatiale, posée en barre.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The municipality uses the following motto : "Habitare fratres in unum", or 'brothers living together in unity'.

Chavagnes is a town with several religious houses and is called a 'holy town' because of the intensity of religious activity there. Its inhabitants suffered terribly in Republican massacres against Catholics in the years 1793-96. Hence the choice of the motto and the two crosiers.

I have no information on the right half of the arms.
